The Delivered Price Benchmark Service

How does your business measure up?

The Delivered Price Benchmark is a powerful tool because it provides wood bioenergy companies the same advantages as other energy source price indexes. Companies that produce energy from coal, natural gas and oil have Platts; wood bioenergy companies have Forest2Market.

Participation in the Delivered Price Benchmark Service allows wood bioenergy companies to evaluate their performance against their peers in the same geography, of approximately the same size and consuming the same timber product. Benchmark participants use the results to:

  • Secure steady raw material supply with supply agreements indexed to our price benchmarks
  • Hedge your feedstock price risk by indexing power purchase agreements to the delivered price benchmark
  • Hedge diesel costs naturally, since diesel is one of the cost components included in the benchmark
  • Identify and capitalize on procurement cost saving opportunities
  • Negotiate best  ‘spot’ prices
  • Measure facility and individual performance against the whole market
  • Negotiate prices with customers

How Does It Work?

How We Collect Data

Participants agree to send actual transacted volumes and prices (wood settlements). Data transfer methods and formats are the same for all participants, thereby allowing apples-to-apples comparisons.

All data is transferred from the settlement system at the participating facility to Forest2Market's database. There is no need for companies to switch software or to make complicated adjustments to the way they are doing business. This system-to-system transfer prevents errors from being introduced into the data.

What We Report

Distribution of reports is limited to participating companies only.

Delivered Price Benchmark  reports all wood raw materials and biomass materials:

  • Softwood and hardwood pulpwood
  • Softwood logs
  • Softwood and hardwood chips and residuals including:
    • Primary chips (chip mill and in-woods)
    • Secondary chips
    • Hog fuel (mill residuals; in-woods and construction debris)

Each quarter, participating facilities receive:

  • Facility delivered raw material cost rankings by geographic area
  • Delivery cost segments by component including (where applicable):
    • Stumpage
    • Chip fees
    • Cut-skid-load
    • Hauling charges – including haul miles
    • Procurement expense
