The Delivered Price Benchmark Service

How does your business measure up?

Participation in the Delivered Price Benchmark Service allows forest products companies to evaluate their performance against their peers in the same geography, of approximately the same size and consuming the same timber product. Benchmark participants use the results to:

  • Identify and capitalize on resource procurement cost saving opportunities
  • Negotiate best prices (buy or sell)
  • Assess facility and/or individual performance
  • Negotiate and index win-win supply agreements
  • Confidently determine quarterly valuation for lenders, owners and shareholders
  • Understand the premiums for customer length preference
  • Support harvest schedule planning
  • Compare economic efficiency of geographically situated assets
  • Maintain acquisition, disposition and appraisal databases with efficiency

How Does the Delivered Price Benchmark Work?

How We Collect Data

Participants agree to send actual transacted volumes and prices (wood settlements). Data transfer methods and formats are the same for all participants, thereby allowing apples-to-apples comparisons.

All data is transferred from the settlement system at the participating facility to Forest2Market's database. There is no need for companies to switch software or to make complicated adjustments to the way they are doing business. This system-to-system transfer also prevents errors from being introduced into the data. Forest2Market personnel are available to assist participants with set-up and analysis of results.

What We Report

Reports are distributed only to those who participate in the benchmark.

The Forest2Market Delivered Price Benchmark Service covers all wood raw materials:

  • Douglas Fir and other conifer saw-logs and chip-n-saw
  • Interior PNW pine and fir species
  • Conifer and hardwood chipwood
  • Wood chips – residuals and whole logs

Each reporting period, participants receive:

  • Mill cost rankings by peer group
  • Average and premium length time series charts
  • Saw/Veneer/Ply mill residual chip cost comparisons by area
  • Pulpwood cost comparisons by area

Add-On Products

Once you become a benchmark participant, you can also receive custom analytics on a per-analytic basis. No matter how you need your data sliced, diced and analyzed, we have the experience and the expertise needed to help you answer critical questions and solve your most difficult business problems.

Why You Can Trust Us

  • Forest2Market is a neutral and independent third party. We do not buy or sell timber.
  • Participants are required to submit 100 percent of their data. This precludes the possibility that data can be cherry-picked to skew results. In addition, all data is subject to periodic audit to ensure results are reliable and accurate.
  • Forest2Market has received a favorable anti-trust opinion.
