The Delivered Price Benchmark Service

How does your business measure up?

Participation in the Delivered Price Benchmark Service allows forest products companies to evaluate their performance against their peers in the same geography, of approximately the same size and consuming the same timber product. Benchmark participants use the results to:

  • Identify and capitalize on resource procurement cost saving opportunities
  • Negotiate best prices (buy or sell)
  • Assess facility and/or individual performance
  • Index supply agreements

How Does the Delivered Price Benchmark Work?

How We Collect Data

Participants agree to send actual transacted volumes and prices (wood settlements). Data transfer methods and formats are the same for all participants, thereby allowing apples-to-apples comparisons.

All data is transferred from the settlement system at the participating facility to Forest2Market's database. There is no need for companies to switch software or to make complicated adjustments to the way they are doing business. This system-to-system transfer prevents errors from being introduced into the data.

What We Report

Distribution of reports is limited to participating companies only.

Delivered cost and cost components are benchmarked for:

  • Pine and hardwood pulpwood
  • Pine and hardwood primary and residual chips
  • Pine sawtimber
  • Fuel chips

Each quarter, participants receive:

  • Mill cost rankings by area and southwide
  • Delivery cost segmented by component (stumpage, cut-skid-load, haul, etc.)
  • Woodyard inventory by area — a leading indicator of price movements
  • Procurement costs

How Much Data We Collect

Forest2Market delivers the only credible benchmark in the industry by collecting actual delivered raw material costs and cost components from major forest product companies. We track prices on more than two-thirds of all raw materials crossing the mill gate, about 180 million tons, reported in more than 7 million transactions each year. The delivered cost components tracked include stumpage price, cut-skid-load, haul and commission and overhead.

Introduced in 2006, the Delivered Price/Mill Benchmark Service has since become the industry standard. Today, over twenty-five million tons of raw material moves under supply agreements indexed to this service. Innovative forest product companies supply delivered raw material costs and cost components making our's the only credible benchmark available.
